New Year

New Year

S o here we are, on the brink of a new year. I can’t believe it is finally here.

The year that was 2012 saw its fair share of changes for me and my family, and has been pivotal for what we’re about to embark on here.

I’m suddenly aware that there’s not oodles of time in the bank. It’s time to crack on, and get writing and recording.

In many ways, the previous album and title song On The Edge had prophetic silver lining to it:

What I know is that there’s designated time
For you and I to do something with this life
So why not now? ‘Cos there’s no time like the present
It’s time to go on over to the other side

This year I moved out of full-time media into full-time teaching. Little kids, Grade 1 to 3 (ages 6 to 9). That career change has been drastic for family life. My wife – also a teacher – now has my full understanding and empathy when it comes to the end of the day.

I continued to write and edit on a freelance basis for media outlets around South Africa.

I tiled my own kitchen. I bought my first electric guitar. I entered into new communities and made new friends.

I’ve been happier in 2012 than I’ve been for a long time.

And so here we sit, on the brink of  a new year with many new plans and possibilities. Here’s to the uncharted, the undeveloped, the unwritten and the unsung… may we all be surprised with exceeding joy in 2013!

Happy new year!
